Happy new week friends! It’s Keiko from Happy Tree Studio today and I have a cute (yet another) house shaped card for you! If you have seen my IG feed, then you know I am obsessed with House Builder die set. This is actually the 5th house I ‘built’ (See the photo below for the first four houses)!

I love adding details to my cards and the add-on die sets for the House Builder are super fun to use. However, I challenged myself to create a house with no add-on dies (or coordinating stencils and paper packs). I only used the original House Builder die set (I think I used almost all the dies included in this set!).

Once you selected your color pallet, you just need to start die cutting everything you want to use. I wanted these small flowers and leaves to decorate the house, so I die cut them bunch of times (probably the most time consuming part of the whole process!). Since the roof is the largest piece, I wanted to make it a little bit more interesting to look at by adding some texture. I simply used my scoring board to add horizontal and vertical score lines. I also added horizontal score lines to the wall piece as well. Before putting together the pieces, I inked the edges of some of the pieces with gray ink or gray Copic Markers.

Now you just need to assemble the pieces! I mainly used liquid glue and used foam tapes to pop some of the parts up. To make this into a card, you need to cut another house base and a hinge piece (included in the set), and adhere them to the house panel you created (I recommend using strong score tapes). For the finishing touches, I added white gel pen detail to the curtains, and Liquid Pearl to the flower centers. I also added a gold star embellishment I found in my stash to the door.

I think the house turned out pretty cute!
Thank you so much for stopping by today! Have a wonderful week!

    Hello Keiko,
I love the house builder cards that you have made, they are all SOOOO CUTE!!!!! I have a question about the sweet shop house that you made. the window with the jar of candy and the cupcake behind the todays specials sandwich board. What two dies did you use to make the wider trim around that window. I have all of the house builder dies and I for the life of me can not figure out what dies you used to make that window. Any help you have would be great,

Hi Melissa! I’m so glad you like them! As for the black trim around the window you were asking about… I used the two small rectangle dies included in the Sweet Shop Add-On die set. I die cut the larger one first and then cut out the middle using the smaller one. Hope this helps!

I bought this die set (and Christmas house add ons) recently but haven’t used them yet. I am going to use your post as a model. THANK YOU.

What a cute house. It’s great to see an sample using just the original die set. I also liked the idea of using the score board to add texture to the roof and walls.

Thank you Kit!! The original set alone can make so many cute houses! I had hard time choosing the color scheme for this one. So many possibilities!

Absolutely adorable! I have the house builder die set and the gingerbread die set and stamps. I made gingerbread house cards for Christmas and they were so much fun to make and came out great. I want to make a house out of the house builder die set and will use your card as a model. Very nice. Thanks.

Gingerbread house add-on is my absolute favorite! These add-on sets are so much fun to use, but it is totally possible to make a beautiful house with just the original house builder set. Have fun making your house! Don’t forget to share your creations with us!!

Love the house. What type of paper did you use for the white fence?

    • Keiko Ichikawa says:

Hi Nancy! For the fence, I used Distress Woodgrain paper (available in the HBS shop)!
