Hi there! It’s Bobbi Lemanski here kicking off Red, White and Blue week at Honey Bee Stamps! With July 4th right around the corner, I’m feeling patriotic and excited for the long weekend ahead. I’m also excited because there will be inspiration and giveaways all week long at Honey Bee! Today, I’m starting off by sharing two cards using the same set of products in a red, white and blue color scheme! I like to call it, “red, white and blue X 2!”

I’m using the following Honey Bee Stamps products for these two 5″ X 7″ (A7 sized) cards:

Bicycle Builder Honey Cuts die set

Riding By stamp set and coordinating die set

A7 Plaid Cover Plate Die – Top Plate and A7 Plaid Cover Plate Die – Base Plate

Miss You Big Time stamp set and coordinating die set (for the bicycle card)

Puppy Dog Tails stamp set and coordinating die set (for the bicycle card)

Smitten Kitten stamp set and coordinating die set (for the basket card)

Let’s Get Crafty stamp set and coordinating die set (for the basket card)

“Bicycles for Two” Gatefold Greeting

My first card is a gatefold opening, 5″ X 7″ card. I started with Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock for the card base and the A7 Plaid Cover Plate Die – Top Plate. To make the card base, I cut a strip of cardstock 11″ long X 5″ wide and scored at 3-1/2″ and 10-1/2″, leaving a 1″ flap on the right. I attached another piece measuring 3-1/2″ wide X 5″ to the right side, adhering it over the 1″ flap. Next, I layered white on white, for a clean background on the front, since the bicycles have quite a bit of detail. All I did was die cut the plaid layer and cut it at the center point at 3-1/2″. The two pieces were glued to the card base using Bee Creative Precision Glue.

I die cut the bicycles using the Bicycle Builder Honey Cuts die set in royal blue and red. I added baskets to them by stamping and die cutting the accessory using the Riding By stamp set and coordinating die set. Little phrases were added to the tires from the same set. Notice for the red bicycle is a mirror image of the blue one. I simply flipped the die cut to make it point in the opposite direction. I thought the bicycles needed some pizzazz so I added handle streamers made from baker’s twine and also added cloth bows from the Riding By stamp set.

The Riding By set has lots of fun accessories to add to the baskets (you’ll see it in card two). I chose to add these cute puppies instead. The puppies are from the set called, Puppy Dog Tails stamp set and coordinating die set. Aren’t they fun?! I cut them to fit inside the baskets, allowing their cute heads to peep out. They are just darling. There are a number of dog options in this set to personalize, too! (See below for colors used to color the images.)

Inside the card, I added some pattern papers and the phrase from Miss You Big Time stamp set and coordinating die set. I stamped “happy birthday” in Versamark, heat embossed it in white and die cut it from the red pattern paper. Notice that because my card interior center panel is 7″ wide, I cut the 6″ X 6″ blue pattern paper to 6″ wide X 5″ long and used the extra 1″ to create the 1/2″ strips down the sides. (The stripe is on the back side of the pattern.) Perfect fit!

Baskets of Joy Greeting

For my second card, I used the A7 Plaid Cover Plate Die – Base Plate (which has less detail) for the background, layered over a top-fold 5″ X 7″ card. I added the four baskets and filled each one with stuff that just makes a crafty girl happy!

Flowers, balloons, happy mail, a kitten, and paint brushes fill the baskets with happiness! I used the Smitten Kitten stamp set and coordinating die set for the kitten and the paintbrushes are from the Let’s Get Crafty stamp set and coordinating die set. You could fill these baskets with anything that represents the “loves” of the recipient! Scrapbook Adhesives Foam Squares were used to attach some of the elements in the baskets to make them stand out beyond the baskets (e.g., the floral spray, happy mail, and balloons).

Everything was colored in shades of blue and red to fit our theme this week. I used the following Copic Markers:

  • Reds: R89, R29, R17, R14
  • Blues: B99, B45, B41, B21, B91
  • Warm Grays: W9, W7, W5, W4, W3, W1 (for the baskets)
  • Cool Grays: 100, C5, C3, C1 (for the paintbrush metal pieces)
  • Yellows/browns: Y28, E55 (for the paintbrush tips) and in card one the dogs were colored using E55, E53, E50, 100, C9, C7, C5

Finally, I added the Happy Birthday phrase to the front and hemp twine in black to each basket to “hang” the baskets on the wall. A dot of Pearl Pen in black holds the baskets on the walls to resemble a metal hook.
