Use your dies to create photo cards!
Good morning! Emily here with you today to share a fun way to use the fantastic Ornament die set to create a holiday photo card. So many people just send family photos for holiday cards anymore, instead of a pretty Christmas card. While I love receiving photos of my friends and family, I also love receiving a pretty Christmas card festooned in reds, greens, and sparkles. I have been brainstorming ways to use the (ahem, copious amounts of) Christmas supplies in my stash combined with the family photos we get taken every year, and I was able to use my Globe and Ornament Shaker dies to create a pretty shaped photo card! Let’s get started on the details!
I started by die cutting the solid portion of the Globe and Ornament Shaker die from my family’s photo. I then used the same solid die to create a shaped card base. To do this, I used a top-folding A2 notecard that I’d already scored and folded, placed the top of the ornament just above the fold line of the folded card, then ran the whole thing through my Vagabond. I flipped it over (to hide those unsightly lines from my very well-loved cutting pad), then adhered my family’s photo to the front of the card base.
When using family photos, I like to try to keep the color scheme for the card something that will coordinate nicely with the color scheme in the photos, so I chose to die cut the shaker portion of the die set from cranberry colored card stock, then use it as a frame for my family photo. I cut the ornament topper from some silver glitter card stock and added a navy twine bow to the loop. For the greeting, I used the Merry Christmas dies and their coordinating stamp set. I die cut the Happy Holidays from royal blue foil card stock, then die cut and stamped the “from our family to yours” on some white card stock using dark blue ink.
I flipped it open and wrote a little message inside. I’ve never made a shaped card before, but it’s quite fun! I’ll have to try it again!
Well, that’s all for me today! I hope I’ve given you a little inspiration on how to incorporate your beautiful family photos into your holiday cardmaking. Have a fantastic weekend!!
