Welcome to The Daily Marker 30 Day Coloring Challenge Blog Hop!
Kathy Racoosin is one of those special people on earth… she is so talented, and so kind. She is a true gem! Kathy has supported me from the very beginning, and that is what she is best at… being an amazing teacher, encourager and supporter! I have followed along with The Daily Marker 30 day Coloring Challenge for quite some time now – and with each challenge, I see the amount of love and energy she puts in to this challenge, and encouraging those who take part. She is just amazing!
I had the wonderful pleasure of attending a crafty retreat with Kathy (and an amazing group of women! Seriously the most fun I have ever had crafting!) The time we all had together was beyond incredible. (And yes, we got to help Kathy with her cute little Daily Marker Challenge video teaser, too! So sweet of her to include all of us ladies). While in attendance, I had our newest product release on hand to play with. When Kathy asked me to take part in the hop, I knew I had to use our brand new Spring Blossoms stamps to get my color on! (I was so anxious to color them, and they are so much fun to paint and color!!) Here’s a look at my card.
To create this card, I stamped out a bunch of the flowers and leaves using Ranger Archival ink on Neenah 140lb card stock. I started off with Copic markers to color in the flowers and leaves. I wanted a bit of a variegated look to the petals, so I used a flicking technique to draw several colors of pink out from the center and blended them out a bit to my lightest pink. To add a touch more depth and variation, I came back in with my Chameleon double-ended colored pencils and added in more lines to add depth and shadow towards the edges of my petals, as well as the bases of each petal. Kathy has gotten me hooked on coloring with a base of alcohol or water markers… and then adding colored pencils on top for highlights and shadows. It adds such a beautiful touch!
Once I had my flowers and leaves all colored to my liking, I fussy cut them (because I chose not to have the white border of the dies. Although, dies are available for the Spring Blossoms set!) Once cut, I began to arrange the flowers on a base layer to visualize how I wanted them to layer. I knew I wanted to mat the card and add a touch of gold – so before adhering any flowers, I cut my white card front (about a half inch smaller than my card base, for a nice 1/4″ border of kraft card showing from below). I used our brand new Love Bug stamp set to stamp the “happiness is knowing you” sentiment. Once that was stamped, I gave the white card base a quick shot of Gold Pssst! Sheer Shimmer Spritz. It adds just the right amount of shimmer, and really sets off the kraft background.
Once my white card front was adhered to my kraft card, I decided that I wanted to have several dimensional layers of flowers and petals, so I began to pop up the flowers for added depth. Most of the leaves I left for the last – and tucked them underneath the flowers that I popped up. To pop the flowers up, I used transparent Kool Tak 3D foam pads. (Have you tried them? If not, you should check them out! I absolutely love Kool Tak for adding dimension).
Once my card front was established and set in place, I decided to glean another one of Kathy’s tricks… using a good ‘ol White Gelly Roll Detail Pen to add some lovely little highlights and an extra touch of dimension to the flower stamen.
This card really was fun and relaxing to create… and I hope that it has inspired you to color some lovely blooms of your own!
