Now… on to the creativity! I have always adored Kathy’s Coloring Challenge. I always participate – however – I don’t usually post what I color on social media. It’s usually a sheet of stamps from my newest release that I will stamp out and color – and the great part is that I have those colored images on hand for easy die cutting and use for card when I need to create something in a pinch! It works out beautifully. And each time I do the 30 day challenge – I come out stronger in my coloring abilities… so it really is a win win. (Plus – I Adore Kathy. She is seriously so sweet and I am so Blessed to call her a friend!)
This card really was a lot of fun to make. I needed to make a wedding card for a country wedding coming up – and their colors are tan/burlap and corals/orangey tones. I wanted the card to match their theme, and was going for a very country feel.
I used our ever-popular Zen Floral stamp set to stamp a tone-on-tone background for the card. Once I had the background stamped, I spritzed the entire background with gold mist to help tie in some of the gold tones in the flowers that I had planned out.
I stamped a bunch of flowers from the Zen Floral stamp set and started to color them in, lightly, from the center going out. I started with a light gold tone and started to add different shades of coral, orange, gold and yellow. I blended the flowers out in different ways to help give them some variation. I also wanted to keep some of the white visible – because I love the combination of Kraft paper and white together. There’s just something about it that makes me happy! 🙂
Here’s a look at the pile of flowers that I started
Once I had the background created – and my pile-o-flowers and leaves created I started getting a vision for piling them all up and bringing them to the front to display the sentiment. For the sentiment – I used our brand new “Hooray” Dies as well as our brand new “Hooray” stamp set – the little words lined up like a dream in my MISTI tool. (I line them up on the grid lines themselves – instead of trying to place the little words on the card itself and then picking them up with the lid. For me – this method is so much easier and I know that they are going to be perfectly in line). I can’t live without my MISTI tool! It’s a lifesaver for all my little sentiment stamps.
I cut the white stitched rectangle from our brand new set of A2 sized Double Stitched Frame dies. They are sized perfectly proportionate to an A2 Card – so you know that each step down will be in just the right proportion to the card.
I spent a little bit of time lining everything up how I wanted to pop it up. I adhered the very bottom flowers and leaves directly to the background. Then, I started to add foam dots to the back of the flowers that I wanted to pop up. Once I had them laid out – I peeled the backing off of the foam dots and placed everything down for permanent placement. Voila! That’s all there is to it. It’s amazing what some foam dimension can do for a card… it can really bring it to life!
Here’s a close up so you can see the different dimensions of the card. It’s kind of hard to tell here – but I have 4 different levels of dimension here. The base flowers are adhered right to the card. Then, my first level of flowers are pop-dotted up with one layer of foam. For my sentiment block, I added double foam (stacked) so that it would have double the height. Then – to take it even further – I added a short layer of foam dots to the back of the “Hooray” sentiment, too… adding a 4th layer to the dimension! (You can also see the gold shimmer mist on the background of the card in this photo. In person, it’s a nice little touch and really adds to the warmth of the card. It looks lovely in person).
Well friends – I have had so much fun creating and sharing with you… and I hope you have enjoyed seeing my card!
I hope to be back with you guys on the blog again soon! I really enjoyed getting to create for you guys – and again – and so excited to be a part of this amazing Blog Hop.
