It’s Bobbi Lemanski here from BobbiHartDesign.com with this Sweet Treats Food Truck card idea. I guess you could say I’m “moving” on from Valentines, right into this truckload of sweetness. 🙂 Food trucks are all the rage these days and I thought it would be fun to create one in true Honey Bee Stamps style. To create this card, I used the following Honey Bee products:

Camper Trailer Card die set

Treat Shop Add-On stamp and die sets

Sweet Treats stamp and die sets

Piece of Cake stamp and die sets (for the large cupcakes on the truck, only)

Home Essentials 6″ X 6″ pattern paper pad (for the window opening and frame, only)

Candy Shoppe Clay Bits

Stitched Scalloped Circles die set

To construct this card, I started by making the food trucking following the steps below.

Making the Food Truck

From the Camper Trailer die set, I die cut the camper base die four times – two in aqua and two in pink. I also cut the camper door and wheels/hubcaps from pink cardstock and tires from black cardstock. I added a small piece of black cardstock behind the door handle and a gray piece behind the window to fill it in. I cut a 7″ wide X 1/4″ tall piece of black cardstock (not shown in the photo, but can be seen on the finished card) to run along the base of the truck to unite the elements into one vehicle. It also serves as the “running board”/step for the passenger door.

From the Treat Shop Add-On stamp and die sets, I die cut the awning – one in black and one in white. To size the awning for the window, I cut one scallop section off on each side. I cut the black sections apart and glued them to the white die cut to make it striped. The awning is too large for the truck as is, so I cut 1″ – 1-1/2″ off on the straight edge opposite the scallop. From the scallop edge, I scored at 1/8″to 1/4″ (following the scored line from the die) and again at 1″ to make the awning shape.

From the Home Essentials 6″ X 6″ pattern paper pad, I cut a rectangle measuring 4-1/4″ wide by 1-1/4″ tall from the white siding striped pattern paper for the food window background and two 1/4″ strips from the faux wood planks paper for the frame around the window. The wood frame was adhered to the rectangle on three sides.

From the Treat Shop Add-On stamp and die sets, I stamped, colored and die cut the pink easel tabletop sign (as well as the “today’s specials” and two cupcakes on it), the cake dome (as well as the cupcakes inside it), the cake, pedestal platter, balloon bouquet, the display rack, and the “we’re open” sign. I also stamped the banner design three times in the window opening at the top of the window frame and colored in the individual triangular pennants. The “sweet treats” phrase and the flower trios were stamped on the door die, too.

From the Piece of Cake stamp and die sets, I stamped and colored three cupcakes – two for the truck sign on the top of the truck and one for the front of the card. The cupcake tops and bottoms were die cut and assembled together to create the truck sign and backed with a piece of white cardstock to finish the back side.

From the Sweet Treats stamp set, I stamped the “sweet treats” phrase on a piece of white cardstock that I had already colored with Copics in W1, W3, C1, C3 for a light woodgrain effect. I trimmed the phrase down to 3-1/4″ wide X 3/8″ tall. Small black dots were added to the corners for faux screws and the full piece was matted with a dark gray cardstock, cut slightly larger to make a gray frame and attached over the cupcakes to complete the large truck sign.

The third cupcake was adhered to a dotted (used my Copic RV17 to make the dots) Stitched Scallop Circle die cut. The phrase, “All you need is…” was stamped on a white fish tail banner and adhered behind the cupcake to finish the front panel design. I set this aside for later.

Truck Assembly

Now it’s time to assemble. This is the easy and fun part because all of the other pieces have already been prepped. To create the truck base, I simply flipped the pink trailer die over and matched up the hitch to the center of the the blue back tire and matched up the blue base hitch to the center of the pink tire and adhered them together. The pink and black tire pieces were attached, hiding the hitch underneath. The passenger door was added, using the tire circle die to cut out a 1/4 of a circular shape from the lower left corner of the door to fit around the tire. Bang….food truck base complete!

The Sweet Treats/Cupcake sign was added to the top of the truck. Placement is important because the sign and truck cannot extend beyond 5″ tall. Anything higher than 5″ will not fit in the overall 5″ X 7″ card dimensions.

The word “Handmade” from the Sweet Treats stamp set was stamped on the blue card base, centering it between the wheels and under the window correctly.

The awning was adhered to the back of the window component at the 1″ fold line and the entire piece was attached to the truck, below the cupcake sign. Balloons were adhered in place, tucking them behind the right-hand side of the window frame.

I assembled the window’s baked goods and signs, laying out my counter as desired. I added mini cupcakes and lollipops to the two tiered rack using Candy Shoppe Clay Bits. They are the cutest and perfect for this project. Mini clay hearts were also added to the sign, top of the cupcake and cake and banner.

Making the Card Base

I cut two 7″ wide X 6″ pieces of teal cardstock to make this 5″ X 7″ card base. I adhered a 6″ wide X 4″ tall piece of faux gravel pattern paper from the Home Essentials 6″ X 6″ pattern paper pad to the inside panel of one of the pieces, lining up the top edge. Both teal pieces were scored at 1″ from the interior edges. I stamped the inside message, “Love and a cupcake HBD2U” from the Piece of Cake stamp set right over the gravel.

For the front panel, I stamped the small cupcake in teal from the Treat Shop Add-On stamp all over on the teal front. I added three white sprinkles (aka dots) to each cupcake using my white gel pen. The scallop circle design created in an earlier step was attached to the front.

Card Assembly

The food truck was positioned over the folded base, centering on the front side. The extra base dies were positioned on the back and adhered to the folded section of the base and the truck. By allowing the tires to straddle the folded section, the truck pops up when the card is opened. The 5″ X 7″ card folds flat and fits perfectly inside an A7 size envelope, too!

That card is beyond adorable! What a creative imagination you have! Must have taken you forever to make, but the end result was worth it I’m sure. Absolutely adorable!

Hi JoAnn. Thank you! I started by making the truck and finished the next day making the card. For cards like this, the joy is in the process for me v. the finished product. I start with the idea of a few elements and it grows from there! This could be simplified easily, requiring much less time and still be really cute. Have a “sweet” Sunday! Hugs, Bobbi

YOU ARE SO SMART!!!! I’m going to look at my dies in other ways now!

    • Thanks, Sharon! For some reason, I get so much satisfaction in looking at a die and finding a new way to use it. It’s that unexpected joy of something new again! Happy Valentine’s Day! Bobbi
