I love, love, love the loose and vibrant watercolor style of Margaret Berg! One of my favorite pieces is her Birthday Cupcakes…
Isn’t it so gorgeous & fun?!
Now I really have no talent as an illustrator but this piece inspired me to try to create something similar with the Honey Bee Piece of Cake set…
I started by stamping the cupcake wrappers with Distress Inks on watercolor cardstock.
I used more Distress Ink (swiped onto my craft sheet) to paint the wrappers, using lots of water and letting it go outside the lines a bit.
I heat set the wrappers before stamping the cupcake icing & painting with more Distress Ink because I didn’t want the colors to bleed together.
I love that this look encourages me to be a little messy (a direction I tend to lean towards anyway, haha) and there are really no mistakes!
I hope you have just as much fun as I did if you decide to give this loose watercolor technique a try!
Thanks so much for stopping by!
