Hello Bee friends. I am invited to a beach-themed birthday party to celebrate my niece, Mikayla’s 30th birthday on Saturday. Instantly, I knew I wanted to use this cute VW bus die from Honey Bee’s Sunkissed Summer release. I’ve been waiting to use this special die. I love a good retro van and this one had to be teal with a few rust spots! Total vintage, right?! My birthday card features the following Honey Bee Stamps products:
Lovely Layers: Beach Bound Honey Cut dies
Lovely Layers: Hammock – Honey Cut dies
Lovely Layers: At The Beach – Honey Cut dies
The featured project below is made from Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock for the card base and card front panel. All of the black ink stamping was done using Honey Bee’s Bee Creative Intense Black Ink. I use Honey Bee Stamps Bee Creative Precision Glue and for when I want more dimension, Bee Creative Foam Dots With Tab for adhering my elements together. My card is 5″ X 7″ in size.
To make this 5″ X 7″ card, I started by diecutting all of the elements of the VW bus from white cardstock. I colored the base of the bus using Distress Oxide Ink in Mermaid Lagoon with my large Blender Brush. I used Copics to add the rusty dinge. I like to use E49, YR27 and YR24. They are my go-to colors for rust! I also used E53-E50 to create the beige colored white hood and roof. This also makes the bus look a bit more vintage. I used cool grays for the metal details (bumper and lights) and YR24 and Y19 for the reflectors. The tires were colored using black 100.
Next, I die cut the boards and the straw tote from white cardstock and colored them using various shades of blues, oranges, yellows and pinks. The straw tote from the set, Lovely Layers: At The Beach – Honey Cut, was done in earthy E Copics with a little pink and orange striping, too. The bow was colored in blue and I added white polka dots using my Gelly Roll white gel pen.
I die cut the fun palm trees using the Lovely Layers: Hammock – Honey Cut dies. I used Copic colors, YG67, YG17 and YG03 for the palm leaves and E47, E44 and E55 for the trees’ trunks.
For the A7 background, I used Distress Oxide Inks in Picked Raspberry, Carved Pumpkin, and Mustard Seed and my blender brushes. I blended from from top down. At the bottom of the panel, I used Gathered twigs. I also added more sandy colors by using my Copics in E50-E55. Specks of shells and stones were created using my Gelly Roll white gel pen and a fine-tip black marker.
All the assembled die cut elements were added to the panel. I used Bee Creative Foam Dots With Tab to attach the bus so that it would stick out more. Lastly, I stamped the phrase from the set Sunkissed Summer in black ink.
Inside the card base, I stamped another phrase from the Sunkissed Summer stamp set. I also stamped two cute palm trees right above the sentiment. This stamp is from the Light the Way stamp set. I attached the front panel to the stamped card base to complete the card inside and out! My niece will love this card.

Oh wow, what an amazing birthday card! It couldn’t be more perfect for the occasion! I just can’t get over how realistic you managed to make the van ~ it looks exactly like a rusty vintage beach bum van!! Awesome work on all the different elements, in fact. Thank you for sharing!
