Happy Easter! For those of you celebrating today, this card is about new beginnings with joyous and vibrant springtime blossoms and a nest of precious blue robin eggs. It’s a card for today, on Easter Sunday and/or any day. Today is my birthday and I think this card would be lovely as a birthday card, too.

I am using the following Honey Bee Stamps products:

Lovely Layers: Peony Honey Cuts dies

Lovely Layers: Bird Nest Honey Cuts dies

Lovely Layers: Spring Greenery Honey Cuts dies

You Got a friend in Me stamps and coordinating dies

For the basics… my featured project below is made from Neenah 80lb Solar White cardstock for the card base and card front panel. All of the black ink stamping was done using Honey Bee’s Bee Creative Intense Black Ink. I use Honey Bee Stamps Bee Creative Precision Glue and for when I want more dimension, Bee Creative Foam Dots With Tab for adhering my elements together. My blender brushes (large and small) are a must for ink blending color on the background, too. For white highlights, I use my white Gelly Roll pen. My card is 5″ X 7″ in size.

To make this card, I started by diecutting all of the layers of the peony, using a darker pink for the bottom three layers and the rest from a light pink cardstock. I used Distress Oxide Ink in Worn Lipstick along with my blender brushes to add darker shades to the edges of the layered petals. I also used a foam tab between the second to the bottom and next layer to add some depth to the flower.

I did the same using the Lovely Layers: Spring Greenery Honey Cuts dies and the Lovely Layers: Bird Nest Honey Cuts dies using kraft, green, pink, lavender and a light aqua cardstock. I die cut and assembled the nest and bird eggs. I used Walnut Stain ink to darken the bottom layers of the nest. I used more Distress Oxide Inks to blend color onto the florals including Peacock Feathers, Worn Lipstick, and Shaded Lilac.

To create the background of the card front, I used one of my die cut scraps from the large peony to shade on Worn Lipstick to an ivory cardstock cut 5″ X 7″ for the card front. This make for a very soft and modern background. I love doing this technique. I also splattered on brown and black watercolor ink to make the messy splotches over the entire front. These metallic watercolors would also be beautiful. I set it aside to dry.

I assembled the florals and nest with eggs on the card front once it was dry. I used foam tabs under the peony and nest to make them stand out a bit. Once they were positioned, I added the other layers around them – leaves, greenery and florals.

To complete the card, I splattered white ink over the entire card front to create a speckled look. I also added some black dots to the eggs, nestled in the nest. I used a brown marker to add a little more definition to the nest branches.

I glued in some dried babies breath around the florals. I love the tan color and how it works to unite the colors of the nest. This is not necessary, but I liked the added dried bits. Lastly, I stamped and die cut the phrase, “you are amazing” using the You Got a friend in Me stamps and coordinating dies.
