Hello crafty friends! Happy new week!

It’s Keiko from Happy Tree Studio here today with this fun 3D record player/briefcase birthday card. I saw a cute briefcase shaped record player on line, and decided to create it with papers! It folds flat to fit in a standard A2 size envelop, but will pop back up when you take it out! *The text in blue are direct links to the Honey Bee Stamps shop*

Card Base
You need two pieces (one for the top and another for the bottom of the record player) of 4.75″ x 5″ card stock (scored at 0.5″ from both sides) and a piece of 4.25″ x 5″ (scored at 0.5″ from ONE side) card stock (this piece is going to be the flap). I didn’t have the exact color of card stock I wanted (muted mint color), so used light gray card stock instead and added Cracked Pistachio Distress Oxide Ink with blending tool. Since I wanted to have the inside of the flap same mint color, I ink blended the both sides of the flap piece and added music note pattern with Sheet Music stencil. Once it is dry, I white heat embossed the sentiment from For the Record set.

Making the Record Player
This is fairly simple process since Record Player Card Base die set has everything included to make your own player. I die cut the pieces I wanted to use from various card stocks such as black glossy paper for the record, and light gray and silver glitter card stock for small parts. The sentiment on the record label is from One-Of-A-Kind stamp set. TIP: It is easier to glue on the record player parts at this time (before assembling the card base). I decided to die cut the thin pieces (they look like a volume control) into the card base, so this has to be done before we assemble the card as well.

Embellishing the Briefcase
I stamped a bunch of images from Good Mix set and die cut them with the coordinating honey cuts dies. I also included a sentiment from For the Record set. I arranged them on the outside of the flap piece and glued them on. I thought they look like those stickers you put on your suitcases. To embellish the corners, I used small die cut circles cut in four/two. The lock was created using the tiny rectangle dies included in the Record Player Card Base die, and the handle, two straps and four pieces to secure the straps are die cut with Straight Interactive Sliders die.

Assembling the card
Now we have all the parts ready to be put together! First, reinforce the score lines with a bone folder.  Then apply strong adhesives to the 0.5″ tabs of the two base panels (one for the top of the record player with all the parts glued down, and another for the bottom), and glue them together. TIP: If you are using brads to secure the briefcase handle like I did, it is easier to do that before gluing the other side. Now adhere the flap, two straps and four pieces that secure the straps. TIP: When gluing the straps, only use the glue to the bottom of the record player, not to the side. Another TIP: Use your fingers to gently curve the handle and those four pieces (for securing the straps) before adhering them.

Final Touches
I die cut a tag using Piece of cake die set, and stamped a sentiment from the same stamp set. I attached it to the handle using some twine. I then apply Glossy Accents to some of the buttons and switches. That’s it! Now go ahead and admire your creation!

Thank you so much for spending some time with me today!

Have a wonderful week!!
