Hi there! Happy July 5th! Emily Midgett here with you today sharing some inspiration using some older stamps and dies with some bright and clean semi-patriotic colors. I love blue and white; so much so, in fact, that my wedding colors were blue and white, my bedroom decor is blue and white, and basically all of my surroundings are some shade of blue and white. (Ha!) I was in a patriotic frame of mind this week when creating my project for today, so I used 2/3 of the patriotic color triumvirate as the basis for my project today.

I began by stamping one of the beautiful Cosmos blooms onto some white card stock, then coloring it with Copic markers in pretty, vibrant shades of blue (adding touches of very dark gray to the areas with the most shadows). Once the coloring was complete, I die cut the bloom with the coordinating Honey Cuts.

As you may have noticed from previous posts, I love using tone-on-tone textured backgrounds for florals. There’s something so subtle and elegant about them. I wanted to let my vibrant blue Cosmo shine, so I die cut the Watercolor Lines cover plate from some more white card stock and layered it over the top of a white A2 card base. I also die cut the Spring word dies from some electric blue foil (that photographs horribly) and backed it with some heavyweight vellum. I stamped the coordinating greeting (who knew there were so many possible sentiments using the word “spring” that had nothing to do with the season?) from the Spring stamp set on a few strips of white card stock.

After I’d completed all of the stamping and die cutting, it was time to put everything together. I adhered all of the die cuts using dimensional foam tape, finally adding some white enamel dots to add even further texture and to help fill in a few of the bare spots.
