Hello Honey Bee friends! Today I’m using the beautiful Lovely Layers: Heart Vine Honey Cuts to make a clear, see-through card! I’ve been wanted to make this style of card for a long time. I really don’t know why I waited because it is really easy and lots of fun! I created some inky watercolor paper to use too! Read on to see how I made my card.

To create my clear card base, I used heavyweight 10 mil. acetate. I cut a piece down to 4-¼” x 8-½” and scored it at 4-¼” to create my top-folding A2 card. Tip: I scored the acetate the same way I would a piece of paper cardstock.

Next I had some inky fun! I began by smooshing Spun Sugar Distress Ink onto my craft mat. I used a water sprayer and spritzed it with water and tapped some watercolor cardstock repeatedly into it. I used my heat tool to dry between layers. When I was satisfied with the look, I moved on to the next color: Picked Raspberry, then finally Festive Berries. This is a fun technique and you can’t mess it up! Just keep drying between layers, don’t use too much water, and you can get the look you want. I ended up making four of these panels. Here is a photo that shows some of my process:

When the inky panels were dry, I die cut six of the base layer of the Lovely Layers: Heart Vine. (I ended up using just four for this card.) Die cut the top layer from white watercolor card and adhere to the base layers with Bee Creative glue.

I used a heart from the Scallop Hearts Honey Cuts to die cut one from the inky card panel and three from white watercolor card. Then I die cut three hearts from the Stacking Hearts Honey Cuts from white watercolor card.

Here are the steps for assembling the card:

  • Arrange the vines and adhere them to the clear card base with small dots of Bee Creative glue. The pieces will go past the edges of the card, but that’s okay! Set a large stamp block on top to hold them down and let dry for several minutes.
  • When the vines are dry and adhered to the clear card, use scissors to trim off the excess that hangs over the sides of the card. Save these pieces!
  • Adhere one white die cut heart to the scallop inky heart. Adhere to the card front with glue.
  • Open the card and adhere one white scallop heart to the back of the card front. This will give a cleaner, more finished look to the inside of the card.
  • Next, adhere a white scalloped heart to the the card inside, centering it behind the heart on the card front. This is where you can write your sentiment.
  • Adhere the last scallop heart to the backside of the card. This will hide the adhesive from the heart on the inside.

I didn’t worry about the adhesive showing (or a bit of ink) on the back of the vines. I don’t think it shows that much and besides, it’s handmade with love!!!

I used a sentiment from the Gal Pals stamp set and stamped it in black ink onto a scrap of watercolor paper. I used my MISTI to stamp it a few times for a clear impression on the textured watercolor paper. I die cut it out with the coordinating Honey Cut. I popped it up with foam squares and adhered it to the card front.

I used the leftover vines pieces that I trimmed from the edges and added a few drops of Bee Creative glue, then tucked them around the sentiment. To add some sparkle and shine I used a clear glitter pen on the base layer of these pieces, then topped it off with Glossy Accents.

I sure had fun making this clear see-through card and hope you’ve enjoyed the process! Have a wonderful, crafty week until next time!
