Hi there! Emily Midgett here with you today to share some no-line coloring inspiration using the brand new Oh My Whiskers stamp set. I absolutely love the whimsical, almost storybook feel of this stamp set. The little kittens with their deadpan expressions are so precious… and so very feline! Ha! Let’s get started with the details on this project.

I began by stamping the sweet little floating kitten from Oh My Whiskers in the upper corner of the A2 watercolor panel using very light ink. I had originally planned to have the other kitten looking up at him from the ground, but I thought to myself… cats like to climb trees, and it would be so very typically feline to see a fellow cat somewhat in distress and simply watch them languidly from the comfort of a tree branch! So, I stamped the balloon-kitty’s little friend in the opposite corner using the same pale ink, then stamped several tree branches around him using the Birds and the Bees stamp set.

After I’d stamped all of the images, I used Tombow markers and a wet paintbrush to do some no-line watercoloring. The key to no-line watercolor is to keep the wet portions away from each other until they’ve dried sufficiently; if two wet sections touch one another, they can bleed into each other, which will ruin any definition that the images may have had and create a mottled mess. For the sky, I wanted one of those bright summer skies that was so bright so as to be almost white, with a few little clouds here and there. I have been playing with the idea of the absence of color, and so when painting my sky, left several areas in a vague cloud shape completely blank, giving the idea of a cloud, but not being too obvious with it.

The final step was to add a sentiment. There are so many cute sentiments in the Purr-fect Sentiments stamp set, and there were several that would have been so darn cute with this card, but I loved the expressions on the kitties’ faces so much that I thought “hang in there” was a perfect way to sum up their day. I stamped the greeting and heat embossed it, then cut it out with the coordinating dies. I added some pale blue ink blending over the top of the embossing to make it match the blue sky behind it.

Well, that’s all for my project today! I am absolutely in love with these kitties, and for someone who doesn’t find themselves reaching for critter stamps often, I think that’s saying something about what a fantastic set the Oh My Whiskers stamp set is! Thanks so much for stopping by today, and have a marvelous weekend!
